A Father's Determination
1
The Challenge
Noam was born with Rhythmic Movement Disorder, causing him to forcefully hit his head during sleep cycles to achieve nerve stimulation, resulting in injuries and bleeding.
2
The Refusal
When doctors suggested Valium as treatment, Noam's parents refused to accept medication as the only solution for their child's condition.
3
The Innovation
Instead, they developed a specialized crown with a gyroscope, controller, and vibrators that detected head movement and provided calming artificial vibration.
The Birth of Plectrum
1
Personal Need
Creation of a vibration-based solution for Rhythmic Movement Disorder using a modified bicycle helmet with sensors and vibrators.
2
Family Tragedy
A sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) event in the extended family sparked a realization about the broader potential of the technology.
3
Breakthrough Insight
Recognition that the crown concept could be applied to any piece of clothing, creating "active fabric" that could prevent SIDS in real-time.
4
Company Formation
Establishment of Plectrum to develop and scale haptic-based technology solutions for medical and disability applications.
Fighting SIDS Through Innovation
Real-Time Monitoring
Our active fabric continuously monitors infant breathing patterns and movements during sleep, detecting even the slightest irregularities.
Immediate Response
When dangerous patterns are detected, the fabric provides gentle stimulation to prompt normal breathing without waking the baby.
Life-Saving Protection
This intervention can prevent the tragic consequences of SIDS, giving parents peace of mind and potentially saving thousands of lives annually.
Beyond Sleep Disorders
Physical Therapy
Our fabrics can provide targeted stimulation for muscle rehabilitation, helping patients recover from injuries or manage conditions like cerebral palsy.
Anxiety Management
Gentle, rhythmic touch patterns can help reduce anxiety and provide comfort for individuals with sensory processing disorders or PTSD.
Elderly Care
Active fabrics can help prevent pressure sores, improve circulation, and provide fall detection and prevention for elderly users.
Communication Tools
Touch-based communication opens new possibilities for individuals with hearing or vision impairments to experience their world more fully.
